OwlCrate: November 2018

Happy Friday eve, lovelies! We’ve made it to Thursday. This has been a superbusycrazy week for me, as I started a new job on Monday. And the week before that was just as busy, what with Thanksgiving and my 3-year anniversary with my amazing girlfriend. For our anniversary, she bought me 1 month of OwlCrate, which finally arrived today, and I’m so happy about it! I really missed these boxes. I’m so thankful my girlfriend knows me so well.

This month’s OwlCrate theme is Rise from the Ashes and features a whole bunch of really cool items. If you missed my Instagram story unboxing (which you most likely did because who follows me anyway?), check out below to see what you missed! As always, click the links to see all the talented people who created these incredible items.

Rise from the Ashes

πŸ”₯ An Ember in the Ashes pillowcase

“As long as there is life, there is hope.” This vibrant pillowcase comes from designer Evie Bookish. Her stuff is amazing, and this pillowcase is just that.

πŸ”₯ Skull-shaped planter (or pencil holder, as my girlfriend suggested)

Should I even try to grow something in this? All my plants seem to die, but it could really liven up my desk space at work… Maybe I should just stick to pencils. This cool planter was created by the Owl Crate team.

πŸ”₯ OwlCrate wax seal kit

Probably my favorite item in this month’s box is this beauty, created by the OwlCrate team with the help of  designer Michelle Gray 😍 I have always wanted a wax seal and now not only do I have one, but it’s a bookish wax seal. And that purple wax is going to look amazing. I cannot wait to try this out. Anybody want to become pen pals?

πŸ”₯ Rise from the Ashes pin + wishing bracelet craft kit

I’m happy to add this month’s phoenix pin to my pin collection. I’m also excited to make one of this wishing bracelets from Ann Williams. I’m sure I’ll find some way to mess this up…

πŸ”₯ Dumbledoor and Fawkes sticker

In love with this cute sticker featuring Dumbledoor and Fawkes from Harry Potter. The lovely Suzanne Draws created this one. On my laptop you go!

πŸ”₯ Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

And finally, the book of the month: Girls of Paper and Fire, along with the author’s note and this cute little sticker (that will also be going on my laptop…). Here’s the Goodreads blurb:

Each year, eight beautiful girls are chosen as Paper Girls to serve the king. It’s the highest honor they could hope for…and the most cruel.

But this year, there’s a ninth girl. And instead of paper, she’s made of fire.

In this lush fantasy, Lei is a member of the Paper caste, the lowest and most oppressed class in Ikhara. She lives in a remote village with her father, where the decade-old trauma of watching her mother snatched by royal guards still haunts her. Now, the guards are back, and this time it’s Lei they’re after–the girl whose golden eyes have piqued the king’s interest.

Over weeks of training in the opulent but stifling palace, Lei and eight other girls learn the skills and charm that befit being a king’s consort. But Lei isn’t content to watch her fate consume her. Instead, she does the unthinkable–she falls in love. Her forbidden romance becomes enmeshed with an explosive plot that threatens the very foundation of Ikhara, and Lei, still the wide-eyed country girl at heart, must decide just how far she’s willing to go for justice and revenge.

I had literally never heard of this book until I picked it up out of the box. Did it get a lot of hype? If so, none that I heard. Of course it’s a series…which I never have time for anymore…but I am excited to read it nonetheless. It looks interesting.

Oh, and here it is without the jacket:

So, there you have it. I’m so happy with this year’s anniversary gift. Thanks, babe.

If you haven’t subscribed to OwlCrate yet, you’re missing out. If I had the money I’d never stop subscribing! Definitely a great Christmas present for any book lover.
