I did it!
(I don’t know whose dog this it, but I love it.)
After 5+ years of not reaching my Goodreads reading goal, I have finally achieved the impossible: I, a 23-year-old adult with a full-time job, have read 50 books before the end of the year. I am a s t o u n d e d. I know it’s not actually impossible, and people with less free time than me read, like, hundreds of books a year, but I’m pretty proud of myself. Failing year after year was embarrassing and sad, especially since I knew exactly why my number of books had decreased: I got a smartphone. Welcome to my sad life, where scrolling through social media takes up more of my time than reading. Ugh. I’m ashamed.
But not this year! I made sure I spent more time reading. I started listening to audiobooks. I started DNFing books I didn’t like/wasn’t interested in continuing. I limited my screen time. And look where all that got me: 50 books by the beginning of October. Not an impressive feat for some, but I’m so happy I just wanted to share the news. I’m excited to see how many more books I can squeeze into the last few months of 2019.
I’m going to save my stats and such for my annual ‘year in review’ post, so stay tuned for that. I just wanted to share this quick update and tell you all how happy I am to finally see that ‘Completed’ sash over my Goodreads challenge. Take that, social media scroll time!!
Oh, and happy Friday, guys(:
