Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week, she will post a new Top Ten list topic for everyone to weigh-in on. Link back to That Artsy Reader Girl on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers’ lists!
This Week
Purple, Yellow, and/or Green Book Covers (in honor of Mardi Gras, which is today!)
This one was pretty challenging! I wanted to pick covers that had dominant colors, not just some green or purple here and there. Yellow, though, was tricky. Apparently I don’t read many yellow-covered books. Definitely a difficult theme today, but also a fun one. I only picked books that I’ve read just to add to the challenge.
10 Mardi Gras-Colored Covers
Purple
Glitch (Glitch, #1) by Heather Anastasiu
Cannot believe this book is almost 10 years old. I read this when I was just out of high school! Teenage-me really liked this series, as it’s a very typical 2010s dystopia. Always have loved the cover, too.
One Day in December by Josie Silver
I read this during our very snowy winter here in Ohio this season, and the mood was just right. Very much enjoyed this winter romance. The cover may be a little more on the blue side rather than purple, but it’s definitely a purple-ish blue. Don’t come for me.
Memento (The Illuminae Files, #0.5) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
You all should know at this point I’m obsessed with Jay Kristoff’s books. The Illuminae Files is one of my favorite series, so I was really excited to finally get the chance to read this little prequel novella. Kristoff and Kaufman can break my heart in so few pages, it’s really incredible. I wish I had this gorgeous book in physical form so it could look nice on my bookshelf with the rest of the series.
Yellow
Darkdawn (The Nevernight Chronicle, #3) by Jay Kristoff
Once again, Jay Kristoff. That’s it. That’s the blurb.
Recursion by Blake Crouch
Though I preferred his Dark Matter, Crouch is very talented in writing books that fuck with your mind, and Recursion is no different. Definitely the most yellow book I’ve ever read.
Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness
Such an epic conclusion to a wild series. I was very late in reading this series, but loved it nonetheless.
Green
Heartstopper, Vol. 1 (Heartstopper, #1) by Alice Oseman
Nick and Charlie are goals. They are so cute and I love them to death. I love all of Oseman’s works (that I’ve read so far), but the Heartstopper books just make me squee like a little girl.
The Hand on the Wall (Truly Devious, #3) by Maureen Johnson
What I thought was a great conclusion to this YA mystery series is actually not the finale at all. I can’t believe Johnson is continuing the series! I am excited. I do love the covers for these books. Very monochromatic and cool. Look how much green is there.
The Maze Runner (The Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner
Another oldie but goodie when it comes to YA dystopia. This series was actually my favorite of the 2010 dystopias until I re-fell in love with Hunger Games. It will always have a special place in my heart, though. Along with Dylan O’Brien.
All Three

The Animators by Kayla Rae Whitaker
Finding a cover that had all three colors was so hard. You almost have to do a rainbow book for this one. Luckily I read this color-blinding book a couple years ago. A good novel, for sure, and one that completes this challenging Top Ten Tuesday.
Wow. That one was hard. But really fun! I love exploring my Goodreads shelves for covers that fit the prompt. Have you read any of these books? Do you love/hate the covers? Let me know in the Comments! And be sure to link your own Top Ten Tuesday posts for me to read!
Heartstopper has such a great cover.

We share a selection – The Hand on the Wall! I have yet to read a book by Jay Kristoff but hoping to read a book of his this year. The Illuminae Files is also on my TBR. Great post!! 🙂

I did prefer Dark Matter but still, Recursion was a really great novel. Love Crouch’s ability to create twists that surprise me! Thanks for reading 🙂

I never would have thought of this particular list topic, but now I must ask: do you organize your books on your shelves by color?

I do sometimes! Though it does look pretty, it makes it hard to find certain books. Right now it’s alphabetical by author last name. Have you ever done by color?

I haven’t….for the reason you mention. I’m hardcore alphabetical — and may or may not have books organized by genre as well. I won’t commit to an answer there.

Totally don’t blame you. Though the colorful shelves are pretty, I prefer being organized.
